DISCIPLESHIP: WHERE TO START
Where to start as a church:
  • Discuss among your staff what it is you want people to know about their faith, God, and the Bible within two years of attending the church - these will be core beliefs and doctrines
  • Once you pinpoint what that is, begin to evaluate the current classes, programs, and curriculum being used and see if it helps teach your church family the core beliefs and doctrines that you have previously outlined
  • If they help teach those core beliefs and doctrines effectively, great! If not, that's where the consultation process begins and you can begin discovering how to be more effective with the classes, programs, and curriculum that you are currently using

DISCIPLESHIP STARTS BEFORE SOMEONE EVER BECOMES A FOLLOWER OF JESUS

Where to start with new believers
The best place to start with new believers, regarding information, is the very beginning
  • What is the Bible
  • There are two sections to the Bible - Old and New Testament
  • There are 66 books in the Bible - 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament
  • What does being a "believer" actually mean
  • What does being a "disciple" actually mean
These things sound simple, but in all honesty they are the very building blocks to a strong foundation in the life of a new believer. Starting with the basics isn't insulting, in fact you may soon discover it is actually freeing to people who are walking into an unfamiliar situation with unfamiliar people who seem to already have the answers.
